For the first time in decades, I had a deep desire for a McDonald's cheeseburger. In fact, I think it's the first time ever. Where did it come from? I have no idea. And this happened at 10 am. I didn't want to wait till lunch time. Seriously, I went insane for a short while

So I went up to the post office (I had to have some excuse to be in the vicinity) but didn't actually mail my parcel because the post office had a queue out the door, and they all looked slow and I really wanted that burger.

I got to McDonalds at 10.23. Looking at the board, I was a bit concerned. There was only breakfast food on there and somewhere in the back of my mind I had a terrible feeling...

Still, I stepped forward and asked for my burger. I think I must have looked desperate. The young man said, "I'm so sorry, we don't serve those burgers until 10.30."

I looked at the massive clock on the wall. 10.23. "So, seven minutes?" I said.

"Yes. Seven minutes," he said, quietly.

No, I didn't stand there staring at him for seven minutes. I went to the op shop and din't find anything. I got back to McDonalds at 10.35. Same young man.

As I stood in the queue I had a sudden terrible fear that cheeseburgers didn't come with pickles. I wanted pickles.
"Do the cheeseburgers come with pickles?" I asked the young man.
"Yes, but we can take them out."
"No! I like the pickles."
What a kind young man. He said, "Would you like extra pickles?"
Yes, I did. A minute or two later I had the cheeseburger.
I took it home. Ate it. And it was spot on, exactly right, just what I wanted. When does that happen?

So, to sum up; didn't mail a letter, freaked out a Mcdonalds server, got a cheeseburger with extra pickles, won't need to eat one again for some time.
  • Twas!

I also wrote a 3000 word article, finished a 10,000 word novella, researched ideas for a certain short story collection upcoming and cooked a damn good dinner for the family! Didn't think that was amusing enough, though!
    • Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!

I love though that the post focussed on the hamburger!
      • Not often you get to write about a hamburger!
      • Er... why are there weightwatchers ads all over your livejournal?
        • That's a bit scary! Did something get triggered cos I mentioned the M word? I don't eat it every day, Weight Watchers! Seriously! Usually I'll have miso soup and some dry toast! Take me off your watch list!
          • Umm. . .you didn't also crave an ice cream, did you?
You're so super-competent--not only did you address the cravings and conquer them, but then you had this stunningly productive day--the article, the novella, and all.
            • Sometimes one just has a yen for a particular food (if MacDonald's can be considered "food").

When I was on steroids for viral pneumonia I was compelled to eat cheez puffs (cheez doodles that are puffy) almost every day. I'd rarely if ever eaten them before but every day like clockwork I had go and buy a packet. Weird. I've occasionally been interested in them since (maybe once a year or so) but never like during that period of time. I kept thinking: what is it in my body that's forcing me to eat these things?
              • That's an interesting one! I do like a good cheez puff, but have never suffered a craving. I wonder what it was? Some particular chemical! That cheezy flavour!
                • I don't know but my body seemed to crave it. But how did my body FIRST know to crave it and that they would satisfy? No idea.
                  • Now I want some cheesy snacks! It's not quite at craving stage, but if there was a bag here I'd eat the lot.
            • Hahahahaha no, no cravings for icecream, or for dirt! I can confirm I am not pregnant! Though it did feel like that kind of craving!
